In August 2021, days after the American forces left Afghanistan and the suffering, chaos and confusion consumed those left behind without a way out, I was contacted by a great friend who asked if I could work with his friend to help an Afghan journalist/fixer who was left behind.
In the subsequent weeks, a small cyber team helped Omid with a range of tasks to secure his online footprints, save files from his computer and phones for future use and work to give him needed data to escape Afghanistan.
Months later he reported to us, “I’m in Islamabad”
